Aeris Announces Fusion IoT Network

By Ken Briodagh
November 04, 2019

Aeris, an Internet of Things (IoT) enablement company, recently announced the general availability of its Fusion IoT Network, which it is calling one of the first intelligent 5G-ready solutions. It also includes options for LTE-M, NB-IoT, LTE, and 2G/3G. Aearis says that the Fusion IoT Network is designed to lay the groundwork for a dynamic and flexible connectivity solution that adapts to a rapidly changing environment. Further, Aeris announced that it has chosen Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as the infrastructure provider for the network.

IoT connectivity has often been locked into a specific choice for connectivity and technologies, and Aeris said it sees this model as no longer tenable for modern IoT, as the pace of change has increased with new regulations, frequent wireless technology transitions, and global growth initiatives. Aeris said its Fusion IoT Network will upend this legacy model, and avoid application and connectivity silos.

Feature list:

  • Over-the-Air Updates. By making the OTA process aware of the state of connectivity, Aeris predicts its customers can achieve a 60 percent reduction in cost, a 40 percent improvement in update scaling, and a 30 percent improvement in battery life. Customers reportedly can either use Aeris connectivity-aware OTA APIs to integrate into their own solution or leverage Aeris’ OTA campaign manager.
  • Multi-level Administration. With this account hierarchy, complex distribution models can be handled while maintaining strong security between customer accounts.
  • Multi-layered security. The Fusion IoT Network detects anomalies at the connectivity layer, according to the release, and exposes them in order to provide input into defense-in-depth security strategies.

Not only does the Fusion IoT Network reportedly leverage the wireless footprint of multiple global wireless operators, it has deep integration into those networks, leveraging proprietary techniques based on over 50 patents. As a result, Aeris says, Fusion enables feedback on IoT device states and locations instantly, enabling faster diagnosis of potential issues. Also, because of its purpose-built IoT billing system, it can handle non-standard models, including event-based and lifetime pricing, thereby ensuring that the IoT billing model is aligned to the overall business model. Fusion prioritizes quality of connection over cost of connectivity to improve application performance.

“The era of simple IoT connectivity solutions is over,” said Raj Kanaya, Managing Director of Automotive and CMO, Aeris, and CEO, Aeris Japan. “Leading customers demand more – greater flexibility and choice, better alignment to business objectives, meaningful improvements to IoT program capabilities, cost, and security. This is our mission with the Fusion IoT Network.”
