Eaton 5P Lithium-ion Power System Enhances Business Continuity Edge Computing

Power management company Eaton recently announced the North American launch of its 5P rackmount lithium-ion uninterruptible power system (UPS). Reportedly, the 5P lithium-ion UPS is designed to provide a dependable, integrated solution with enhanced network security, extended battery life and remote management capabilities for distributed IT and edge computing environments.

The 5P lithium-ion UPS uses lithium-ion batteries that provide enhanced performance compared to lead-acid batteries, with extended service life up to eight years and reducing the need for mid-cycle battery replacement. Lithium-ion batteries also have three times faster recharge capabilities, reducing vulnerability and maximizing uptime in the case of power disruptions.

“As IT priorities shift and more companies invest in edge and distributed infrastructure, IT and data center professionals need reliable solutions that can operate with minimal need for on-site support,” said Hervé Tardy, VP and GM, Distributed Power Infrastructure, Eaton. “Our 5P lithium-ion UPS represents a major advancement for UPS technology, giving these professionals the reliable backup power solution they’ve come to trust with our 5P UPS technology while lowering maintenance costs, increasing security and enhancing business continuity.”

Eaton’s 5P lithium-ion UPS includes an on-board battery management system (BMS) to provide up-to-date insights into battery performance, charge cycles and active temperature monitoring to keep the user informed of the lifecycle of their UPS battery. The UPS also provides enhanced network security with the optional industry-first UL 2900-2-2 compliant Eaton Gigabit Network Card, designed to enhance uptime and protect against cyber threats.

Additional features include:

•       Versatile mounting options

•       Less rack space, compact 1U and slimline wallmount

•       Five-year warranty on the UPS and batteries
